The is a region where car is king and fuel is cheap, often leaving little incentive to find more environmentally-friendly methods of walking around.
But this year, as protests throughout the Middle East have actually risen the cost of oil, the problem of discovering alternative sources of fuel has entered into sharp focus.
In an area that has among the highest carbon footprints in the world, one business is making the most of the growing pressure to discover alternatives to oil. It’s set up the Middle East’s very first scheme to recycle cooking oil into biodiesel. It’s proving lucrative too, currently their client-list consists of McDonald’s.
